The work 400 mg addresses the flood of images that bombard smartphones every day via so- cial networks. Digital imagery is collected and interpreted aesthetically/physically through the cloth- ing. There is deliberately no connection between the visual content. As in social networks, where images randomly juxtapose each other and create a transient overall picture through their simul- taneity, the 400 mg collection creates a coexistence between the »looks« – therefore, they be- long to one and another. In the designs for textile prints and Jacquard fabrics, striking present-day motifs such as Instagram profiles, camouflage patterns, or product packaging for medicines are compiled and processed into upmarket textiles. Paired with the ready-mades of the mass industry, the visual content is applied to silhouettes of contemporary youth culture.
The photographic mount of the collection, which was created in collaboration with photographer Joseph W. Ohlert, is based on the idea of a portrait series of young people at places in their mi- lieus. Online, flaunting oneself is an essential act of communication… the photographs pick up on this phenomenon and show the characters in an increasingly staged form.
